Achieving the impossible!
This term our topic is Achieving the Impossible and we are all heading to the capital city!
We are going to achieve the impossible by bringing London to Abbeywood, for what could be the most ambitious showcase yet! We will travel to London as a school in March to gather information and then set about turning the school into London to show off our learning.
To inspire us we have been studying someone who tried to achieve the impossible (over 100 years ago) by attempting to be the first person to travel all the way to the South Pole, without the luxury of modern technology!
We have been following the life of Ernsest Shackleton on a historical timeline and written a biography about him. To get us into the zone we have transformed our reading corner into an Antarctic cabin and spent lots of time using drama to act out treacherous Antarctic scenes helping us see things from different perspectives and to realise the scale of the challenges the crew faced! We have written pdiary entries and persuasive letters of application which convinced Ernest to take us with him as valued crew members...everything from expert navigators to cooks and dog trainers!
But...does Ernest actually achieve the impossible?
Can we succeed in our mission to transform the school into London?
