Cricket Tournament May 2016
Congratulations to the 8 year 4 children who took part in a cross school's cricket tournament (organised through School Games) and came 2nd! Well done!
Sport Relief March 2016
Abbeywood and Church Hill joined forces to take part in a sponsored tag team marathon to raise money for Sport relief, with the intention of running as many marathons as possible between them. The children of Abbeywood alone ran a total of 165.25 miles, which was the equivalent of 6.3 marathons and that was before adding in the efforts of Church Hill and the fantastic parents and grandparents who joined us! The last count of sponsorship money showed that over £2000 has been raised so far between the schools and the last bits of money are still coming in. So well done to everyone for taking part and thank you for your generous contributions in sponsorship. It really will make a difference.
National Skipping Day Friday March 18th
March was a sporty month at Abbeywood and the children worked hard to develop their skipping skills in time for National Skipping day. There were prizes in every class for the most improved skipper and for the child who could complete the most skips in 2 minutes. The results were fantastic and the children did themselves proud. Teachers were also put to the test in an assembly to see which teacher could complete the most skips in the 2 minute challenge and Mrs Frost just pipped the Miss Molloy to the post!

Bikeability!
Well done to those year 4's who took part in bikeability, a training programme which helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe when using their bikes out and about in the community. They all successfully passed part 1. We have already booked it in for the new year 4's so watch this space!
Dodgeball Champions
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our very exciting sponsored dodgeball event held at Church Hill Middle School. You did a fantastic job to raise money for the valuable work of the British Heart Foundation. What better way to do it than taking part in a heart healthy activity themselves and having a lot of fun along the way!
Year 4 Beech Class Dance Festival
Congratulations to the Year 4's from Beech class who took part in a Dance Festival at Tudor Grange Academy at the start of this term. They performed their dance, inspired by the Firebird, to 2 other local first schools and several middle and high schools. Mr Osman and Mrs Woodman were very proud of the performance, as the children represented Abbeywood fantastically with their high quality dance, in a theatre under the bright lights and in front of a large audience. Well done!
Cedar Class Dance Festival
In March, Cedar class proudly represented Abbeywood at a dance festival held at Kidderminster College. The children took part in several dance workshops lead by professional dancers to include street dance, Charleston and contemporary dance styles. They then took centre stage under the lights to perform their own choreographed creative dance inspired by Stravinsky's 'The Firebird', which has been part of their learning in school, linked to the BBC Ten Pieces Project. Alongside their performance were dancers from other schools and colleges, meaning that they were privileged enough to contribute to and watch some real high quality dance. Well done Cedar Class!
Whole School Dance Festival
Years 1 - 4 joined together to celebrate the work they have been doing in dance. Some classes were inspired by music from the BBC Ten Pieces projects and others developed from stories they had been exploring. It was an afternoon of fun and fancy feet when the children got together to perform their class dances to each other. Well done all!
Years 1 and 2 Dance Workshop
Key Stage 1 followed the whole school dance festival with a workshop lead by 2 professional dancers. The children were keen to develop our theme of 'difference' by exploring dances, stories and cultures from around the world. The day ended with a sharing of their learning with the whole school, where we were taken on an exciting journey from Australia, to Asia to Africa and finally back to Europe!
Year 4 Curling
Several year 4's were selected to represent Abbeywood at a Redditch School's Curling Competition (organised through School Games). Having won their group rounds, one team made it through to the finals where it was a very close call. The team achieved 4th place overall - a fantastic effort!
Year 3 and 4 Quicksticks Hockey
15 year 3 and 4's were chosen to compete in a Redditch Schools hockey tournament (organised through School Games). Both teams won their group rounds and made it through to the quarter finals where Abbeywood A Team went on to win the semi final and compete in the final. In an exceptionally close match which went to extra time and finally the golden goal, we got pipped to the post by the opposing school. Abbeywood did themselves proud as usual and 8 children have a very sparkly silver medal to show for their efforts. Well done to all!
