Dan the Skipping Man at Abbeywood!
Recognising physical education at Abbeywood over the year...
Over the year, children at Abbeywood have been involved in many fantastic physical education activities both inside and outside of school. To recognise the school and the pupils achievements, we have been awarded the certificates above from School Games. Well done everyone! We look forward to more great physical education next year!
What's coming up...
We've had a wonderful day with Emma who led street dance sessions to all of our bubbles. The children had a huge amount of fun learning choreography to some awesome tunes!
Physical Education at Home
At Abbeywood we are well aware that being active is one of the most important things you can do for your health and wellbeing. Please find below some information and a wonderful link from Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire:
Just 10 minutes of physical activity per day can benefit your physical and mental health.
We understand that Covid-19, or Coronavirus, raises concerns around being active, particularly within sport and physical activity environments and facilities. However, there has never been a more important time to remain active, for positive mental wellbeing and physical health.
There are plenty of ways that you can get active around the home. You don't need specialist gym equipment, stairs, chairs and household objects could be used to create your own indoor circuit class.
Sport Relief 2020 - Friday 13th March - 'Get Your Kit On!'
Afterrunning, joggingandwalking all week long our children at Abbeywood have celebrated their hard work by having a ‘get your kit on day!’ We wore sporty clothes and donated money towards sports relief.
Each day (completing our marathon a day challenge), as a school, we covered 143 miles. Our total for the week is an unbelievable 572 miles! This distance is about 7 times as long as Hadrian’s Wall, and is twice as long as the total length of the Grand Canyon in the USA! An absolutely amazingeffort from all the children!
Sport Relief 2020 - Marathon a day Challenge!
At Abbeywood we've had our first day of Sport Relief! Our children are taking part in a marathon a day challenge. Each class from Year 2 to Year 4 are running/jogging/walking a combined 26 miles! An amazing effort was made from Maple Class (Year 3) who didn't let a bit of rain stop them from doing their laps (see the picture)! Reception and Year 1 are completing a half-marathon a day and are also impressing. Well done Abbeywood!
