This term we have been learning all about animals. We learnt that some animals such as insects hibernate over winter and decided to make some insect hotels to keep the dry and warm whilst the sleep. First, we looked at existing insect hotels and decided what we liked and disliked about them. Then, we began design our own.
In the middle of our designing process we had a surprise visit from the animal man. He told us lots of interesting facts about mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, insects and amphibians. Did you know the word amphibian means "two lives?" They live one life underwater and one life on land.
Finally, we built our insect hotels. We used the cutting skills we have been practicing to reuse bottles for the outside of our hotels. Then we tied string, sticks and straw into bundles to give the insects a safe place to hide.
